Poet and Don't Know It

AZ

Before you begin work at a publishing house like Puffin, your knobbly knees are literally trembling at the thought of meeting or working on books by all your childhood heroes.

Everyone's been thrilled by the macabre and magical adventures of Roald Dahl (we publish his books), stuck their fingers through the wee holes in the pictures of the nibbled fruit of The Hungry Caterpillar (we publish that one too) and brought up on the timeless Puffin Classics (we publish LOADS of those!) But there is one particular author who I will always remember from being little, the one who made me fall utterly and completely in love with reading and words, and the one who made my classmate, sitting next to me, laugh so hard when our teacher was reading out one of his poems that she peed her pants. That person is Michael Rosen.

Michael has written lots of brilliant poetry collections of his own for Puffin - Quick, Let's Get Out of Here, Centrally Heated Knickers, and You wait Till I'm Older Than You, to name just a few, and has also just finished being our country's Children's Laureate. The main focus of his job as Laureate was to promote poetry to everyone. 'Diverse verse for all!' he was heard to cry and that's exactly how poetry should be - something for everyone and anyone, and about all those people too.

To celebrate this, Michael has put together a poetry collection from the very best children's' poets out there. Nearly all of them have been on tour with him, performing their work. The collection is called Michael Rosen's A-Z and has poems from poets whose names begin with (nearly!) every letter of the alphabet. All the way from Agard to Zephaniah. These poems will make you laugh, cry, feel happy, sad and thoughtful and every other emotion you can think of.

And read closely because you'll discover a few surprises in there too!
